Ivana Okaro is a budding neuroscientist with a heart for Indigenous African literature and creative activism. With the world as her muse, she embraces her duality, placing creativity at the forefront of her academic and entrepreneurial pursuits. This approach revealed to Ivana the wonders of digital media, where artistry intertwines with outreach to inspire meaningful change. She harnesses the power of communications to propel her advocacy efforts in racial and gender equity, using it as a bridge to connect and empower the communities she serves. Her dedication has allowed her to blossom as a digital storyteller, working with educational institutions, non-profits, and companies like Microsoft to unite people through media.
Ivana holds a BSc in Neuroscience from the University of Calgary and is currently pursuing her MSc in Neuroscience at McGill University as a McCall MacBain Scholar. Her research focuses on developing new treatments for babies with brain injury and reflects Ivana’s deep passion for ensuring the wellbeing of children. Guided by her vision for change, Ivana combines her artistic flair and academic insight to transform healthcare and society, sowing seeds of education, hope, and innovation.
In her free time, Ivana can usually be found writing poetry, baking a sweet treat, or handcrafting wigs for individuals with medically-related hair loss.
