Manager, Learning and Knowledge Solutions (See Different)
Ashley Sheppard is a proud Mi’kmaw woman from Newfoundland. She is multilingual and multicultural, having spent over six years living and working abroad in five different countries. She speaks Japanese, French, and Spanish, and is currently learning the language of her people, Mi’kmaw. Ashley earned her master’s degree in international relations at McMaster University and has volunteered in Europe and South America for the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Amnesty International, and WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms).
Ashley is the lead program manager and facilitator for CCDI’s youth education initiative, See Different, a certification program and national network for youth in Canada aged 15-26. She has taught students of all ages, from elementary to university level, and is passionate about learning and creating inclusive environments in which individuals from all backgrounds and experience levels can thrive.
Ashley is a member of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band and takes great pride in her Indigenous heritage. She dedicates much of her free time to continuing her learning journey about Indigenous peoples in Canada, their history, and the continued impacts of colonialism on Indigenous communities across turtle island. In the summer, you will find her outdoors, taking advantage of all the beautiful nature the east coast has to offer with her two dogs, Millie and Watson.
